The Mews

The practice was approached in 2010 to review an existing planning consent subsequent to the sale of the land to a local developer. A comprehensive redesign followed and a new Consent was obtained in 2012, moving the emphasis from the provision of flats to single dwelling accommodation with a greater emphasis placed on sustainability. This new approach sought to provide a more sympathetic mix of development and restoration, whilst at the same time improving the setting by removal of the largely unsympathetic additions to the original cottage hospital building.

The construction contract was in three phases with the third finally completed in March 2014. Upon a proposal by The Somerset Building Preservation Trust the project was shortlisted for a 2014 William Stansell Award; ultimately receiving a commendation from the panel.

The scheme has acquired further housing awards; a commendation in 2013 from the Mendip Council Building Excellence Awards; and the award in 2014 for the Mendip District Council Building; Planning Excellence Awards.
