The David Brain Partnership was founded in 1986. The partners are Robert Lucas and Craig Underdown.
Robert Lucas BA (Hons) Dip Arch Portsmouth RIBA
Robert qualified at the Portsmouth School of Architecture in 1986 and has been with the Practice now for over 20 years. He became a Partner in 2001. He has worked on many and varied projects, notable amongst them, the Bromley Farm residential conversion scheme, which was awarded a RIBA Town and Country Design Award in 2002.
Other work includes a Leisure and Spa extension for the Bath Priory Hotel, and master planning for a new building wing, staff accommodation and new Spa at Mallory Court Hotel. The practice has expanded its project base to include commercial developments and Rob has been working closely with the developer in order to procure the multi-million-pound building stock as clients and end users come on stream.

Craig Underdown BA Arch Dip Arch Hull RIBA
Craig joined David Brain Partnership in 1998 and became a partner in 2001. Craig was responsible for the design of the Spa at the award-winning Whatley Manor Hotel. His work includes a 12 bedroom extension at Lansdown Grove Hotel for Marston Hotels Ltd and the project master planning work at Combe Grove Manor Hotel near Bath, to provide a new 40 bedroom wing together with conference facilities. Craig’s specialty is the ability to deliver contemporary design solutions within the often historic framework of many of the Practice’s Projects. Recent commissions include a new house for private clients set on Bath’s Bathwick Hill, as well as completing a low energy use barn conversion and works to a Grade I city centre building.
